Dear Doctor,
I’m almost 16 weeks pregnant and I’m having sharp pain under my boob on my right side. And blurry vision. And my pee is dark yellow like almost orange. I also have a headache.
Could this be Preeclampsia of pregnancy or PET?
X
Dear X,
Welcome to Aries Online Clinic.
Can I have more details please:
- What is your blood pressure? When was it last checked?
- Did you get a urine test done? Was it checked for the protein level?
- Are you having increased frequency of passing urine? Any burning urine?
- Since when have you had the pain in the right upper abdomen?
- Do you have acid reflux? Or loss of appetite?
- How much water do you drink daily?

Dear Doctor,
I last met with my doctor for consultation about 1 month ago. An ultrasound was done. Urine was also checked. She said that everything was normal.
My BP was also normal, 120/80 , I think.
No, I do not have increased frequency of urine. or burning urine.
But I do have acid reflux. My nausea has also increased in the last few days.
I am afraid that this is due to Preeclampsia.

Dear X,
A BP of 120/80 is normal and not a sign of Preeclampsia .
Preeclampsia or PET generally occurs after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
At 16 weeks, it is unlikely to be Preeclampsia.
Preeclampsia is a condition in which there is increase in the blood pressure level, as well as presence of protein in the urine. There may also be blurred vision if the eyes are affected.
Headache is another common symptom.
In your case, these symptoms are unlikely to be due to Preeclampsia.
Dear Doctor,
What could it be then?
What is causing my symptoms? If not Preeclampsia?
Thanks,
X.
Dear X,
Pain in the right upper abdomen can be due to
– Liver infection (hepatitis)
– Gallbladder inflammation
– Gallbladder stones
– Radiated pain from Gastritis (inflammation of the inner lining of the stomach). Gastritis also causes nausea, bloating and acid reflux.
In your case, it is likely to be due to Gastritis and acid reflux. Gastritis is very common in pregnancy.
Please take antacids like TUMS. You can also take some ice cream or sips of cold milk.
If the pain continues, please ask your doctor for an ultrasound of the liver and gallbladder.
Thank you,
I feel much better now – I was so worried that I have preeclampsia.
I will talk to my doctor about the ultrasound and other tests.
Thanks,
X
You are welcome.
