Missed birth control pill. Will I get pregnant?

I missed a birth control pill on the second week. Then I took the next one on time. I also took the placebo pills I day early. Will I get pregnant?
Missed birth control pill

Hi,

I’m asking this on behalf of my wife. I hope that’s okay. We recently became sexually active and she began taking birth control pills  on May 14th. She’s taking alysena 28. During this time she’s taken them consistently at the same time except for the following situations. During her second week taking the pill we accidentally dropped a pill. To compensate she had the following pill in the packet. And on her last hormone pill before the placebo week she skipped her final dose and began the placebo week one day early. After 7 days of taking the placebo she started a new pack and had her first hormone pill.  We haven’t had unprotected sex for two weeks leading up to yesterday where we had unprotected sex after she started her new pack. During this, I ejaculated. Would you be able to advise us, are we currently protected using the birth control pill?

Hello,

Welcome to Aries  Obgyn Clinic.

Can I have more details please?

  • Did she get her period while she was on the placebo pills?
  • When did she start taking the second pack? Date?
  • And when did you have unprotected sex? Date?
  • Did she miss any pill in the second pack?

Hi Doctor,

To answer your questions:

  1. Yes
  2. Second pack started yesterday June 9th
  3. June 9th shortly after taking pill
  4. No she has not and she has taken the second pill of the second pack today

Thanks

Thank you for your reply.

The chances of a pregnancy are nil.

Since she had a period while on the placebo pills, there is no chance of a pregnancy from the earlier month. And since there are no mature follicles in the ovaries at this time, unprotected sex at this time would not cause a pregnancy.

Also, taking the pill continuously after the period would protect her from a pregnancy this month.

Does the fact that she started the placebo early affect the effectiveness?

No, that will not affect the effectiveness – she will still be protected.
