Hello Jane,

Welcome to Aries Obgyn Clinic

When did you get your last period?

Are your periods generally regular?

When did the discharge start?

How has your pregnancy been so far?

Dr.M.D.Mazumdar

Hi, Dr. Mazumdar,

My last period was 8 weeks ago on 21st July.

My period is generally regular. I get it every month.

My pregnancy was Ok so far – no probem.

The dark brown discharge started from this morning.

Thanks,

Jane

Hi Jane,

Have you had any recent sexual intercourse or vaginal exams that may have caused irritation or spotting?

Are you constipated? Do you need to strain while passing stool?

What medicines or supplements are you on?

Dr. M.D.Mazumdar

Mild cramping
no exam or intercourse
no medication or supplements
I have not had an ultrasound yet.

My doctor says he will do one at 11 weeks.

Has the bleeding increased since your first noticed it?

Does the discharge have a noticeable odor? How would you describe its texture?

There was not a noticeable odor. Stringy jelly texture.

Today, I noticed small amounts of dark brown discharge throughout the day, visible mainly when I wipe. The discharge has been present in small quantities and hasn’t increased significantly. Additionally, I’ve had mild cramping over the past few days, but it has been very minor today when I’m having the discharge.
I experienced mild cramping and bloating last night and the night before, and the cramping has been milder today.

Jane

Experiencing dark brown or reddish discharge in the early weeks of pregnancy is often normal.

It can be due to minor causes like pressure on congested veins in the cervix and vagina while straining to pass. Stools.

Or it can be due to conditions like cervical entropion , a benign condition or cervical polyps.Sexual intercourse can also cause spotting or dark brown discharge.

But it can also be due to more serious causes like a miscarriage.

Since you have cramps, it would be best to contact your doctor and ask for an ultrasound to check on the health of the pregnancy.

Meanwhile, stay at rest as much as possible.

Dr. M.D.Mazumdar

Do you think it could a be a miscarriage? I am very scared.

It is most likely not a miscarriage, but since you have cramps, it cannot be completely ruled out either. Miscarriage can cause cramps and spotting or bleeding. Please stay at rest and contact your doctor.

OK.

I will do that.

Thank you.

Jane.

You are welcome, Jane.
