How to stop my Period…

How to delay periods
How can I stop or delay my period? Can I use birth control pills?

Hi!

I just started my period today but I want to stop it. I have taken 4 birth control pills today.

How can I delay or stop my periods?

Hello,

Welcome to Aries Obgyn Clinic.

Can I have more details, please?

-Are your periods generally regular?

-How long after the periods started did you take the pills?

-What brand of birth control pills are you on?

Dr. M.D.Mazumdar

Hi Dr, Mazumdar,

I have been skipping my periods for the past 2-3 months I believe I don’t recall exactly. Before that they were regular. My period started today in the evening. I took 3 prior to it fully starting. 2 now that it has started. I am on Jencycla birth control pills  – they are  0.35mg progesterone.

Thanks, Jennifer.

Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for your reply.

Birth control pills need to be taken at least 3 days before the beginning of the period to be able to stop it.

Taking the pills after it has already started will not stop the period. They may help to shorten it by 1 – 2 days but will not stop it.

Is there anything I can do now?

What happens if I take more birth control pills?

I am very sorry, Jennifer,  but there is nothing you can do now to stop the periods..

Even taking more birth control pills  will not stop the period.

Dr. M.D.Mazumdar

.

Will anything happen if I take for example 4 birth control pills again tomorrow? Will that stop the periods?

Does taking a “morning after” pill do anything? I took one yesterday and I am hoping it will help.

Jennifer

Taking a number of pills will not help. It will only cause hormonal imbalance. Please avoid taking any more birth control pills.

Dr. M.D.Mazumdar

Thanks, Doctor,

Since I already took five today, if I only take one tomorrow, will this affect or stop my period? I saw somewhere that I need to slowly taper off…take 4 tomorrow, then 3, etc

No, you do not need to taper off.

Since you are already on your periods, not taking any more pills will make your periods continue as usual. Your periods will not stop.

Dr.M.D.Mazumdar

Thank you.

I guess there is no way to stop my periods now, then.

Jennifer.

You are welcome, Jennifer.

Thank you for the opportunity to help and I wish you all the best.
