Why do I have a Missed Period?

I Have A Missed Period This Month. But My Pregnancy Test Is Negative. I generally have regular periods

Hi Doctor,

I have a missed period . I am late by more than 10 days. I’ve done  pregnancy tests , But every time, it comes back negative. For the past 2 days I’ve experienced uti symptoms like needing to pee more and then yesterday when I wiped it had a bit of blood. Last night I struggled to sleep and woke up this morning with pain in my lower abs on the right side and on my back. It’s consistently comes and goes but in my back, it’s like sharp pain

Hello AB,

Can I have more details about your missed period?

-How old are you?

-When did you get your last period? Are your periods generally regular?

-When did you last have sexual intercourse?

-Are you on any contraceptives like birth control pills or IUCD?

Dear Doctor,

I am 22 years old. I generally get regular periods. Sometimes a period may be irregular or delayed but it is more or less regular every month.  I hav not had sex in the last 2 months. I was worried that my UTI symptoms could be causing the delay in my periods

Can UTI cause the periods to get delayed?

Thanks,

Hello AB,

Periods can be delayed or become irregular due to a number of causes. Some of the common ones are :

  • Stress
  • Thyroid hormone issues
  • PCOS
  • Low Hemoglobin
  • Diabetes
  • Excessive dieting or exercise
  • Lifestyle changes etc.

In your case, it is possible that stress over the UTI symptoms is causing your periods to get delayed.

Please take the following steps and see if your UTI symptoms improve:

  • Take D-mannose tablets , 500 mg every 3 hours for 5 days. It is available without a prescription.
  • Take AZO Urinary Tract Defense tablets for pain.
  • Drink plenty of water daily- at least 6-7 glasses
  • Take 2 cups of cranberry juice daily.

You should see your symptoms resolving in the next 48 hours. It is also possible that , once your UTI symptoms decreases, you will get your period.

I hope that helps.
